Stretching approximately 14km from Kabushima Island to Hashikami is a coastline which consists of various types of terrain such as desolate rocky and sandy beaches as well as pine groves. The Tanesashi Natural Lawn is a key example of the scenery here, consists of a natural lawn that stretches down to the beach, you'll feel incredibly liberated. The various seasonal flowers shift in color from early in the summer to the fall. It is designated as one of Japan's places of scenic beauty.

Have a great view of the Port Hachinohe on a Japanese style tatami-matted houseboat. Of course, other than the ever-changing scenery of the fishing harbor and industrial port, you can also experience feeding black-tailed gulls near the Kabushima Island. Located in front of the JR Mutsu-Minato Station, many small shops and stores sell fresh seafood products and handmade side dishes from early in the morning. It has been thought of as the kitchen of the residents of Hachinohe since the war. One of the things that visitors can look forward to is finding something from the various selections of seafood at the morning market and pairing it with a meal purchased at the Hachinohe Fish Market, creating their very own breakfast.

Hachinohe Maeoki Saba (mackerel) is a certification granted by the Hachinohe Maeoki Mackerel Brand Promotion Council for mackerel caught in the northern offshore waters of the Sanriku coast and unloaded in Hachinohe during a designated period. The brand is known in the culinary industry for being Japan's fattiest mackerel. Visitors can enjoy a variety of mackerel dishes at council-affiliated restaurants.

Kuji is one of the main filming locations where the NHK morning TV drama “Amachan”,the story of a female diver catching fresh seafood was filmed not only in Japan but overseas as well. The props and photographs of scenery used in the filming are on display here. Items loved by Amachan fans are lined up here such as the dioramas of Kita-Sanriku and the signs belonging to Cafe Rias which appeared in the drama.

The Kosode Coast has become one of Sanriku Geopark's geosites with its countless strange rock formations which enables visitors to see the historical geological transformations of the Earth. Especially, you can find “Tsuriganedo Rock” which is famous as a unique rock formation containing caves. Every year only arround the summer solstice you can venture through the caves to gaze upon a scenic view of the morning sun.

A museum dedicated to the study of amber located in Kuji which is famous as one of the sites where amber is produced. Along with the amber of each country, you can learn about large ore, amber containing insects, handcrafts, the history of amber and its charm. Especially check out the world's first and oldest fossil of “bird-like feather remains” dated as far back as approximately 87,000,000 years ago uncovered in Iwate Prefecture. A dynamic coastline composed of 200m palisades, large and small strange rock formations formed through erosion caused by harsh waves, oddly-shaped stones and caves that stretch approximately 8km. It possesses beauty that can be seen not only during sunny days with clear skies but even on days with rainy weather, creating a scenic view with palisades shrouded in a haze that takes your breath away. The 736 steps stairway from the observation area to the bottom of the cliffs allows you to reach the beach at the bottom.

A cruise where you can make your way around Kitayamazaki Cliffs with its steep cliffs, strange and bizarre stones formed by raging waves, and continuous caves. Counted as one of Japan's three large limestone caves, it is designed as one of the country's natural monuments. The total length of the known parts inside the cave reaches 3,600m. 700m of it is open to the public. A picturesque scenery that represents Miyako. Its name comes from a Priest Reikyo, a Buddhist priest who lived during the Edo period who said “It's just like Amida paradise.” Sharply-pointed white rhyolite huddled together, the green pine trees, the white color of the rocky surface and the ultramarine color of the ocean creates a beautiful contrast. This changes with the seasons and in the winter you can see the landscape covered in blankets of snow.

Board a small “sappa” fishing boat and see Jodogahama Beach's Hachinohe-ana, or “Blue Cave.” You can enjoy a view of the incredibly clear water of the ocean which, when hit by the sunlight pouring through the entrance of the cave, can sparkle in an emerald green or cobalt blue color. It is said that those who witness the phenomenon of water shooting out from the holes in the bottom of the cave will have their wish come true. Reservations can not be made.

This is a one hour course where a guide will take participants up to the breakwater structure, and learn about the records and lessons of the disaster in Taro district. Valuable footage, taken from the sixth floor of the Taro Kanko Hotel which was struck all the way up to the fourth floor by the tsunami that exceeded a height of 17m, shows the incredibly destructive power of the tsunami. There is also a two hour course where participants will walk along the evacuation route and view the unusually shaped Sanoiwa Rock. (Reservation required.)

The Gyoran Kannon Statue standing tall at 48.5m looks over a perfect view of Kamaishi Bay. The Gyoran Konnon with a fish in its hand is one of 33 Kannon that appear in various forms to save people. Aside from being able to view the heavily indented coastline from the observation platform located inside, it enshrines the 33 Kannon and the Seven Deities of Good Luck. Outside visitors can find the“ Wishing Bell” chosen to be the “Lovers' Sanctuary".

A museum focused the iron located in Kamaishi, the origin of Japan's present day iron manufacturing. Along with its full-scale model of the Hasino iron mining and smelting site, and a theater showing a film which lets you experience the steel creation process, the museum educates you on the history of iron manufacturing through documents and panels. There is also a corner where visitors can create their own original key holders while experiencing the casting process (500 yen to experience). You can also see a sweeping view of Kamaishi Bay from the observation terrace.

Located near Kamaishi Nebama Coast and famous as a Japanese-style inn where guests can enjoy the harvest from the sea of Sanriku. It was damaged up to the second floor by the Great East Japan Earthquake, however it reopened for business 10 months later. This disaster memorial park consists of the Tsunami Memorial Hall dedicated to conveying the reality of the disaster and conducting disaster training, the Kamaishi Memorial Park dedicated to victims of the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, and the Unosato Visitor Center complete with restaurants and a souvenir shop. The park opened in Spring 2019 with goal of providing a relaxing space that preserves the memory of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, and offers disaster education to convey the value of life.

The Goishi Coast stretches approximately 6km southeast along the Massaki Peninsula which protrudes out into the Ofunato Bay. Board one of the small fishing boats and cruise around the coast to see the cliffs with large and unusual rock formations while occasionally getting showered by the waves to get the full experience. It is said that one will find happiness by going through Anatoshiiso, a location with three holes that were formed through erosion caused by the waves. A local delicacy of Iwate Prefecture, which is the shape of an egg. Made using “otebo,” a type of white kidney bean, sugar, flour and chicken eggs with perfectly moist red bean paste mixed with egg yolks, wrapped in a sponge cake and white chocolate. There are also “Red and White Seagull Eggs” for wedding ceremonies and celebrations, and “Gold Seagull Eggs” decorated with gold leaf, as well as seasonal melon and strawberry flavors. Enjoy a cruise on a fishing boat driven by one of the local fishermen. The production of scallops is booming in Koishihama and its brand scallops are reputed for their meatiness and delicious taste. For an additional 500 yen, passengers can enjoy a tour of the scallop farms and try out scallops on the boat. A sightseeing spot located in front of the BRT("Bus Rapid Transit") “Kiseki-no-Ippon-Matsu” or “Miracle Pine” bus stop. Those who stop by can find shops with special products of Rikuzentakata such as souvenirs, marine products, Japanese sake, soy sauce and juice ,and also ramen shop and cafe. There is also the parking area for the Kiseki-no-Ippon-Matsu, a symbol of restoration, and it takes about 10 to 15 minutes on foot to reach this famous spot.

A tour where one can learn about Rikuzentakata's past, present, and future. Being guided by an expert guide on the main tour, participants will visit the front line of restoration such as the “Kiseki-no-Ipponmatsu” or “Miracle Pine Tree,” remains of the old roadside station “Tapic 45,” and construction of the breakwater structure. The Takata-matsubara Pine Grove which is said to have contained approximately 70,000 pine trees was washed away by the giant tsunami which occurred during the Great East Japan Earthquake disaster, however one tree miraculously remained, and is now called the “Kiseki-no-Ipponmatu” or the“ Miracle Pine.” It died from the effects of the ocean water later and it is now preserved as a monument to teach later generations of the disastrous earthquake. It is lit up from sunset to 9PM every day.

The second registered Michi-no-eki (a roadside rest area) in Iwate Prefecture. The building suffered damage as a result of the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami, and in order to convey the threat of tsunamis to later generations, it was maintained in its damaged state. Currently, the site is being converted into the Takata-Matsubara Tsunami Reconstruction Memorial Park (scheduled for completion in 2021), and the Iwate Tsunami Memorial is scheduled to open in September 2019.

Ogama's “Oreishi” is a 16m high and 3m wide marble stone pillar that was formed through erosion caused by waves and towers high in the sea among the violent white-crested waves. There are many unusual and unique rock formations such as the “Todoiwa” or “Sea Lion Rock” where sea lions are said to rest and the “Tunnel Rock” where sea water flows into a hole in a rock that formed through erosion.

Shark fin, a luxury ingredient in Chinese cuisine. Kesennuma Oshima, also referred to as the "green pearl," is the largest outlying island in the Tohoku region. The bridge as a symbol of hope connecting Kesennuma Oshima and the mainland was opened to traffic on April 7, 2019. Each side of the bridge consists of one car lane and a sidewalk allowing crossings on foot and by bike as well. Visitors can also enjoy the beautiful views from the bridge of the Kesennuma region well-known for its picturesque scenery.

Minamisanriku, a town where homes were damaged by the tsunami. The storytelling bus tour looks at the after-effects of that tsunami and aims to increase awareness and help prevent people from forgetting the lessons learned from the earthquake. The bus tour lasts about 60 minutes and passengers can also observes those areas affected by floods. Local guides on board talk about their own personal experiences and the lessons they learned from the earthquake disaster. English and Chinese (Traditional) guide books are also available. A shopping area which follows a brick road that starts from JR Onagawa Station towards the ocean lined with 35 shops such as restaurants, small super markets and retail shops. The building is a replica of the former JR Onagawa Station that was washed away by the tsunami. With Onagawa as its focus, those who stop by can find marine products and local products of the surrounding cities and towns sold here. An isolated island with a circumference of 11km that can be reached in approximately 40 minutes by boat from Ishinomaki Port. Long ago cats were used to keep mice and rats away and so many cats now live on the island that it is said that there are currently more cats than humans. There is even a cat shrine located in the center of the island. It is highly recommended that visitors stay in one of the quaint lodges where you can see the cobalt blue ocean and enjoy the exquisite seafood.

Here you can find exhibits showing a replica of the “Sant Juan Bautista” a western wooden sailing ship that made a round trip between Spain and Japan approximately 400 years ago as well as about the history and culture of that time, such as the mission of Hasekura Tsunenaga, a retainer for the Date family. The temple of the Date family which Date Masamune took over 5 years time to complete in 1609. Opened as a mausoleum to Date Mitsumune, grandson of Date Masamune, a feudal lord of Sendai. Located here is “Sankeiden,” Miyagi Prefecture's oldest mausoleum, nationally designated as an Important Cultural Asset, and you can enjoy the appearance of the four seasons such as the light-up event to celebrate the changing colors of the leaves in the fall carried out in the moss-covered Japanese garden. Matsushima, where you can find as many as 260 islands, both large and small. Believed to be the god of safe travel on the sea, safe childbirth, and continued luck in the fortunes of war. The grounds are located on a slightly elevated hill and in addition to main shrine and front shrine nationally designated as Important Cultural Assets, you can also catch an unbroken scenic view of Matsushima Bay. The path composed of 202 steps which connects the temple grounds to the surrounding town also conveys a sense of elegance. Also famous for the Shiogama cherry blossoms, a cherry tree with large flowers that can contain as many as 40 to 50 petals, which bloom around the beginning of May.

The highlight of this festival is the “Mikoshi Kaijotogyo,” the procession of moving the portable shrines to the port. The two “gozabune” boats which carry the portable shrines of Shiwahiko Shrine and Shiogama Shrine follow approximately 100 accompanying boats, all hoisting their “tairyo-bata” flags, and proceed through the Matsushima Bay. At the festival held the night before the main festival, you can see as many as 8,000 fireworks launched over the sea.

The castle ruins of Date Masamune, one of the Sengoku feudal lords that ruled over Sendai 400 years ago. The castle itself no longer remains, but the stone wall which have been carefully reconstructed helps to preserve those ancient times. A statue of Date Masamune riding a horse stands in the inner citadel ruins where you can catch the perfect view of the stores and houses located in Sendai's city center. Arahama Elementary School, the site which children, teaching staff and local residents fled to at the time of the earthquake and was hit by the tsunami up to the 2nd floor was reopened as a remnant of the earthquake disaster. Photographs and footage are displayed inside the school which show the progress of events from the time the earthquake occurred, evacuation, when the tsunami hit, to the time of rescue, demonstrating the terrible power and threat of the tsunami. Even now, visitors can view the restoration and reconstruction taking place from the roof of the school.

A local cuisine with around 400 years of history originating from Watari Town in Miyagi Prefecture. White salmon is simmered in soy sauce, sake, and sugar until tender and harako (salted salmon roe) is blanched in the same broth. The dish is made by placing the white salmon and fish roe on top of rice cooked with the flavorful salmon broth. In fall, around 20 different restaurants serve Harako-meshi.

Produced by the esteemed Hotel Sakan in Sendai's Akiu Onsen and built on the Watari-cho coastline, this hotspring resort offers views of the Pacific Ocean from its bathing facilities complete with outdoor baths. A festival organized by the three shrines in the northern part of the Hamadori Area in Fukushima Prefecture that has been designated one of the Japanese Important Intangible Folk Culture Assets. Over 3 days, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, at the end of July every year, horse-mounted warriors donning armor take you to a scene straight out of the Sengoku period. The highlights of this festival are the armored horse racing event which takes place at the Hibarigahara Festival Site and the shrine flag competition. Those in the audience will be blown away by the intensity of these brave-looking mounted warriors blazing down the field.

A museum which teaches visitors about "Soma Nomaoi, nationally designated as a Important Intangible Cultural Heritage as well as about Minamisoma's nature, history and folk customs. In addition to dioramas of the “Shinki Soudatsusen” (where hundreds of riders compete to capture flags shot into the air with fireworks), sets of armor, there are also exhibits of other historical items such as fossils dated between the Paleozoic era to the Cenozoic era and farming equipment. There are also special exhibits held twice a year and workshops(application required beforehand).

Kitaizumi Beach is Japan's foremost surfing destination. Nine years after the disaster, the area reopened to the public and kicked off beachgoing season on July 20, 2019 with a professional surfing tournament and other events attracting many people, bringing life back to the beach. Being located in the Kitaizumi Seaside Park area offers visitors access to flower fields, wide green space, and walking paths.

Japan's first national soccer training center reopened to the public in July 2018 after being damaged by the 2011 Tohoku earthquake and tsunami. An aquarium exhibiting approximately 130,000 creatures belonging to 800 different species. In a large tank which stretches from the 2nd to 4th floor, visitors can see Japanese sardine and skipjack tuna swimming around with incredible force. In addition to the tropical Asia section, there are large mammals such as sea lions, the deep sea creature corner as well as the popular “Seas of Coral Reef” corner which has exhibits containing the Spotted Garden Eel.

A tourist center whose theme is “all things good in Iwaki are here.” In addition to a fish area where you can purchase seafood delivered directly from all over Japan in an auction market style, there are also 6 other zones which include restaurants and a souvenir corner. The Iwaki Marine Tower (59.99 m in height) is located in the spacious 700,000 m2 Misaki Park at the cape on Iwaki City's eastern edge. Visitors can take in views of vast green space of the park below and Iwaki City from the observation room at 106 m above sea level.
